SPL card holders can visit these participation institutions using museum passes borrowed from the Library: Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum (Poughkeepsie), Museum of Firefighting (Hudson), the U.S.S. Slater (Albany), and Olana State Historic Site (Hudson). The Friends of the SPL generously provided funding for the museum pass program. Passes check out for 3 days.

Stories of Saugerties- Oral History Workshop: Tues, October 17, at 6:30pm

Come join us as we embark on the collection of oral histories of residents and workers to record contemporary life in Saugerties. We are offering training and support to volunteers interested in conducting interviews as well as those interested in providing stories. We will be partnering with StoryCorps to make the recordings available on their site, archived in the Library of Congress, and will be available our library as well.

Oral historian Lisa Polay will talk about oral history and its uses, we’ll watch and listen to some examples, discuss interviewing techniques, how to record and what to expect on either side of the microphone. Great for those who want to participate or are interested in oral history in general.

The program is open to everyone, our only requirement is to attend an orientation session. Please call or stop by the circulation desk to sign up for a session. Sessions will be held in the community room and run about 60-90 minutes.

All ears welcome!
