Libraries buy books regardless of format–large print, hard/softcover, audiobook, etc. and eBooks are just another format. Not all publishers provide the choice of eBooks to libraries. Please click on the Library Renewal icon to help libraries provide eBooks to our customers by signing a petition to publishers which sends a message to publishers.

Painter and printmaker Deborah Freedman has titled her current show ASHOKAN. Deborah is inspired by the landscape surrounding the Ashokan Reservoir; she and her husband, Bill, acquired a home in Kerhonkson in 1995. Most of the work in this show was completed after Hurricane Irene’s visit to our area last August, 2011. The work reflects the hurricane’s energy in the use of light and strong forms with deep tones of grey and highlights of yellows and green. Some of the work is soft and gentle as rain; other pieces are more stark. A strong use of color and texture infuses the work. Both monoprints and oils on wood are on view. Ms. Freedman’s works will remain on view until June 15.

New Fax Service

The Saugerties Public Library is pleased to announce a new fax service for the community. The cost of an outgoing fax will be $.50 per page for either local or long distance within the United States. Patrons will fill out a mandatory cover sheet provided free of charge, and then give their documents to a staff member to process. Please check out the new Saugerties Public Library Fax Service at our main circulation desk. A librarian will be happy to provide you with all the information you need to get started.

Sculpture Installation: Jeff Schiller ARCH

A welded-steel sculpture by Saugerties artist Jeff Schiller has been installed on the library grounds as part of the Library Art & Exhibitions Committee’s mission to expose the local public to outstanding work by local and national artists. This large sculpture, titled ARCH, is made of thick welded steel. The joined plates and heavy welds show the artist’s hand at work in making this solid material bend to his creative purpose and evoke all the beauty of the classic arch shape in a modern and lyrical abstract idiom.

In this photo, Saugerties artist Brian Lynch is seen installing a mural [5 x 21 feet] made specifically for our ground floor hallway between the Children’s Section and the Saugerties Public Library Art Gallery. It was created in connection with his show: Images from Everyday Life. The mural is collaged from various Lynch works. You can see many scenes and people depicted in Lynch’s unique style—a style that generates empathy for the human condition. This unique work is the first site-specific work done for the Library.
